Tsuta Wild Bird Forest is a beech forest located within Towada-Hachimantai National Park.
Within the primeval beech forest are seven ponds known as the Tsuta Nananuma (Tsuta Swamp, Kagami Swamp, Tsukinuma, Naganuma, Suganuma, Hyotan Swamp, and Akanuma).
These swamps originated when water accumulated over time in the complex topography created by large-scale landslides and collapses in the Hakkoda mountain range, forming large and small swamps and wetlands.
In these humid environments, virgin beech forests developed, nurturing rich forests that are home to a diverse range of plants and animals.
