There was a lot less snow than last January.

▼There is a considerable amount of snow, but it feels harder compared to when I visited last year.

▼When you get to this point, you will sink up to your ankles.
It will be tough without hiking boots and gaiters.

▼It's just barely filled.
It's black so it looks like the snow is melting around here.

▼If you look closely at the snow, you will see footprints everywhere.

▼There are three sets of footprints in a row.
Whose footprints are these?
Just by overlapping the back it looks like a rabbit.

▼Rabbit's footprints

▼There were already human footprints, and some people were using snowshoes.

The entire swamp is covered in snow.

▼The snow has already started to melt in some places!
Spring is slowly approaching.
From what I could see, there didn't seem to be any plants growing there.

▼More footprints!
You wouldn't notice it without the snow, but there are actually so many animals living here.

▼This is the bank of Suimei.
If the amount of snow is so great, it's hard to tell at first glance.

▼Snow-covered mountains.
The contrast is clear and beautiful.

▼There are old footprints here!

▼Cute footprints!
Weasel?

▼We were blessed with good weather this time.
Even though there's so much snow, it's warm.

▼From the banks of Mitarase

▼Lots of footprints.
Were there multiple animals walking together?

▼ The light reflectance of fresh snow is about 80%, which is high among all natural objects (asphalt is about 10%).
The light is so strong that it's difficult to see without sunglasses.
You can also get snowburn, so if you're staying for a long time you'll need proper goggles.

▼I wasn’t used to the intensity of the light, so the photo ended up looking washed out.
It's difficult to take pictures of snowy scenery during the day.
The mild light of early morning or evening seems to be more suitable.

▼There was also some kind of feces.
When it is first taken out it is warm so it tends to sink into the snow.

Overview of Marshland Information

summary
It is quiet in winter, so at first glance it may appear as if there is nothing there, but if you look closely you can see the activity of many different animals.
I haven't had the chance to visit the marshes much in the winter, but searching for traces of wild animals seems like fun, so I'm going to give it a go!
