Climbing record

▼We decided to go to Kaimon-dake, also known as Satsuma Fuji.

Kaimon-dake is one of the 100 famous mountains, located on the left foot of Kagoshima, on the Satsuma Peninsula.

The course time is about 4 hours, so I plan to climb it on the day I arrive.

Sakurajima seen from an airplane.

▼When we rented a car and headed towards Kaimon-dake, we found that the ground was frozen.

I never thought it would freeze this much in Kyushu lol

I thought it would be warmer.

Pass through slowly, being careful of slipping.

A mountain pass covered in snow.

After a while, a beautiful mountain came into view in the distance.

It has a shape similar to Mount Fuji, so that must be Kaimon-dake.

▼I had Katsu Fuji Ramen at Sapporo Ramen Kyujiro.

It seems odd that I would come to Kagoshima and eat Sapporo ramen, but it was delicious.

▼This is Kaimon-dake as seen from the nearest 7-Eleven.

Park the car and head to the trailhead.

There were some cottage-like buildings nearby.

It might be an inn.

▼This is the road leading to the hiking trail.

▼Start climbing!

The plants that grow there give you a tropical feel.

▼The road is rough.

There are a lot of stones and it is slippery.

After climbing for a while, the view gradually improved.

The Satsuma Peninsula can be seen in the foreground and the Osumi Peninsula in the background.

▼Isn't it rare to see a mountain surrounded by the sea?

▼The entire course is short, so we reached the 7th station in no time.

▼The rocky areas increase from here.

Snow has also started to pile up.

It snows even in the mountains of Kagoshima.

▼Arrived at the 8th station!

▼The snow is gradually increasing!

▼The view is looking amazing!

It's nice to be able to see the ocean.

▼From the 8th station onwards, there is a series of rocky areas and ladders.

It's a scary place because the snow makes it slippery.

▼You can finally see the frost-covered trees!

Is this really Kagoshima? Lol

▼The parking lots and other facilities look so small.

Looking at it this way, it seems like I've climbed quite a bit.

▼The summit is in sight.

▼ Final sprint!

▼The scenery is completely covered in snow.

▼There was a shrine along the way.

The shrine near the summit is very charming.

▼Arrived at the summit!

You can see the whole Satsuma Peninsula!

▼It is said that even the Crown Prince once climbed it.

▼Please enjoy the view from the summit for a while!

▼It's scary to go home when there's snow piled up.

Summary

The greatest attraction of Mt. Kaimondake is the panoramic view of the ocean.

You can enjoy both the mountains and the sea.

It was a fantastic mountain and worth the trip all the way to the Satsuma Peninsula!
