
Karimegi Marsh is a low-lying marsh located in the mountains of Ugo Town, Ogachi District, Akita Prefecture.
Located deep in the mountains, it has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
64 species of native plants have been confirmed, including the endemic Garimegi Inunohigesu, and the area is also home to many insects such as dragonflies.

The trail is well maintained and flat, making it an easy walk.
Because it is located in the mountains, snow remains around Golden Week.
The marsh area is located after passing through four swamps and takes about 30 minutes to walk.
Please be careful as there is no signal in this area.

Boardwalks are provided in the marshland area, but they are narrow so you need to walk carefully.

History of the Marsh
Karimegi Marsh was discovered in 1973 by Masamaro Fujiwara, a teacher at Tashiro Elementary School.
Subsequent investigations have revealed that there are 64 species of plants living there.Endemic species of Garimegi dog's whiskers discoveredThis has led to the recognition of its academic importance.
It was designated as an Akita Prefecture Natural Environment Conservation Area in March 1976, and is still maintained to this day.

access
There is no public transportation, so visitors must visit by car.
It is possible to take a taxi from Ugo Town, but as the area has weak signal, advance preparation is essential.
The entrance is located just before the Nashiki Pass tunnel.
About 30 minutes from Yuzawa IC.
