
Located in Nikaho City, Akita Prefecture, Shishigahana Marsh is located at an elevation of approximately 550 meters on the northwestern foot of Mount Chokai and is surrounded by a dense beech forest. This marsh is a rare wetland ecosystem formed by volcanic eruptions, lava flows, and the clear waters that spring from them. It includes a plant community and springs designated as a national natural monument, as well as the cliff at the end of the Shinzan lava flow.
