Get to know the marshes
Kurosawa Marsh is a marshland located in the mountains at an altitude of 550 m.
It is about 2 km long in the north-south direction and 100 to 300 m wide.
It is one of the largest wetlands in Shikoku and the only one in the region to be selected as one of the Ministry of the Environment's 500 important wetlands.

It was used as a rice paddy until around 1960, but as a result of its abandonment, marsh plants began to spread.
In 1965, the plant community, including the egret flower, was designated a natural monument of Tokushima Prefecture.
It is wonderful that such a beautiful wetland is being protected in Shikoku, a region with few wetlands.
The history of the formation of this marshland is as follows:Takigashira Marsh in Aga Village, Niigata PrefectureIt's similar to.
Kurosawa Marsh, which was protected as a habitat for the egret flower, is still home to a variety of plants and animals today.
Unfortunately, it seems that the wild egret flower has become extinct, but a wide variety of wetland plants, such as toadflax and lily of the valley, still live in this area.More than 50 species of dragonflies, killifish, and loaches also live here, and it is used as a valuable aquatic environment for animals as well.
In April 2013, local volunteers"Let's Protect Kurosawa Wetland Association"A group was formed to protect and manage the marshland and hold nature observation events, making it a great marshland loved by locals.
