Kyushu boasts a variety of wetlands, from mountainous marshes surrounded by volcanoes to small wetlands supported by springs and tidal flats stretching along the coast.
The Kuju mountain range features vast intermediate wetlands such as Bogatsuru and Tadehara, and in the Kashihara Wetland in Saga Prefecture and the Gensei Numa in Nagasaki Prefecture, you can observe sphagnum moss and wetland plants up close. Meanwhile, along the Ariake Sea coast, wetlands such as the Higashiyoka tidal flat, Hizen Kashima tidal flat, and Arao tidal flat remain, supporting many migratory birds and tidal flat creatures.
This page introduces wetlands and marshes throughout Kyushu, presented through maps and a list organized by prefecture.
