Touring the wetlands of the Kinki region

The Kinki region boasts a variety of body of water, including Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake, mountainous wetlands, marshes connected to rivers and rice paddies, ponds and swamps remaining near cities, and tidal flats along the coast.
Along the shores of Lake Biwa, you can observe reed beds and lakescapes; in Kyoto and Mie prefectures, you can find rare wetland plants; and in northern Hyogo Prefecture, you can see rivers, rice paddies, and wetlands where storks live. Nara and Wakayama prefectures also retain unique wetlands and marshes that reflect the local topography and climate.
This page introduces wetlands and related marshes throughout the Kinki region, presented through maps and a list organized by prefecture.
